Wem UTENA noch kein Begriff ist, dem bleibt die Handlung wohl noch entrückter als manchem Fan der Serie. Aber es ist auch nicht die Story, die dieses Anime zum Meisterwerk macht. UTENA: THE MOVIE könnte glatt als Stummfilm funktionieren. Es sind die stilvollen Perspektiven und kitschigen Farbexplosionen, die überraschenden Zooms und surrealen Bilderwelten, die einen wahren Rausch der Sinne entfachen.

The classmates of the Ohtori Academy each duel for the right to posses the Rose Bride. Utena, a young girl whose dreams of being a Prince, enters the school and encounters a love from her past. She soon is tossed into a duel and chooses to fight in order to protect a young girl, Anthy Himemiya. Anthy, who is the Rose Bride, holds the key to a power that can fulfill the winner's wish become reality.
